Are you selling or renting your home? It is a legal requirement to have an Energy Performance Certificate, known as an EPC, for potential buyers and landlords from the first day of marketing your property. If you don’t get one, you can be fined.
EPCs became a legal requirement in October 2008 as part of government plans to reduce carbon emissions from homes to zero by 2016.
An Energy Performance Certificate:
has details about a property’s energy use and typical energy costs
makes recommendations about how to reduce energy consumption and save money
gives a property an energy efficiency rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient)
is valid for 10 years
How to get an Energy Performance Certificate:
Eco-energi can assess your property and produce the certificate. Our fully accredited assessor will visit the property and examine things such as:
hot water tank
windows for double glazing
These observations are then fed into a software programme which calculates the property’s energy efficiency on a scale of A to G. The same scale is used to define the property’s environmental impact. Better-rated homes have lower carbon dioxide emissions.
EPCs will also contain recommendations & eligibility for energy improvements under Green Deal plans.
